4th of July in Elizabeth City, North Carolina
The 4th of July holiday in northeastern North Carolina was simply beautiful! My husband and I took the kids to the Elizabeth City waterfront park for the evening and the weather was absolutely perfect. It normally threatens rain as I recall the past years celebrations but there was not a cloud in the sky on the evening of the 4th. We set our chairs out on the lawn at the park to listen to a smooth jazz band play familiar songs with a flair. Several hundred residents were also doing the very same thing. What a sight. Everyone together, meeting, talking and showing the closeness that this area is known for. The main reason for our visit to the park was obviously to see the spectacular fireworks that are displayed every year in honor of our country's birthday. The Elizabeth City Shriner's Club offered hotdogs and hamburgers that cured the growling stomachs perfectly. All was well for the Kitchen family and promptly at 9:00 the fireworks started to the delight of all the kiddies and parents in attendance. At about 9:20 the fireworks grand finale started and man what a show! I sell real estate in the Albemarle area as you already know but at this moment, real estate was the farthest thing in my mind. As my eyes teared up a bit I couldn't help but realize that we are very very fortunate to live in this great country and be able to celebrate whatever we want to, whenever we want to. All I could think of was...God Bless America!
